HLTA status or Course - misconceptions. What is the problem?

Unfortunately, many people have been missed sold the HLTA status from a range of different provider (not Direction Learning Ltd) they have been told that they can award HLTA Status, some have also claimed that the course will give them the status as a result of finishing the course which is also not always the case.

What’s the difference?

HLTA -Course - The HLTA course is a awarded from an Awardimg body such as TQUK, City and Guilds, Open awards ect.

HTLA - Status - The HLTA Status is a CPD process which students need to demonstrate their understanding. Those who are awarded HLTA status must demonstrate, through their practice, that they: are meeting the HLTA standards

What should I be aware of?

You must be aware of the following.

  1. They are different one is a professional process against standard - (Status) one is a accredited course ( check out our post about endorsed and accredited courses) which produces evidence against criteria not standards)

  2. Some school want different things - they may ask for you to take the course over the status and versa.

  3. The school/local authorities have the over all say on pay to being a HLTA and what they reconise to what pay they will give you. It’s best to check with your school before starting the course to see if they will award you the pay.

What Direction Learning are doing about this.

We will try and keep our information as up to date and accurate as possible and inform learners of the differences before they start the course. We will continue to raise awareness of the issue and other issues In the Education and Training industry.
